Vorssaint: Notch Click Fix

A merged fix for a 22K+ star macOS menu bar toolkit: clicks on the top edge of the screen were dropped while the notch animation played. 9 of 11 failed before the fix; all 21 registered after.

The bug

Vorssaint is a free, open-source macOS menu bar toolkit with a Dynamic Island style notch. Clicks on the very top row of the screen belong to the menu bar, so the island handles them itself.

While the island's hover pulse animation was playing, those clicks were silently dropped. In my tests, 9 of 11 top-row presses did nothing.

02

Root cause

Three separate checks dropped the click during the animation: - The press was tested against the island's shape as currently drawn, which rejects points the island is still growing to cover. - A press at the very edge of the screen reports a drag almost immediately, often without the pointer moving, which cancelled the click. - The release had to land inside the original press area, which the pulse can change mid-click.

03

The fix

  • Test the press against the island's destination shape instead of the shape on screen.
  • Only cancel when a drag actually leaves the island.
  • Accept a release inside either the old or the new area.

Behaviour that should not change still holds: transparent corners pass clicks through to the menu bar, and dragging or releasing off the island still cancels.

04

Proving it

I added edge-click unit tests that fail on the old code and pass on the new one. After the fix, all 21 top-row presses in my tests registered. The PR touched 4 files, added 58 lines, and was merged on October 1, 2026.
